The Importance of the first ten days of Dhul-Hajjah

Summary

The virtues of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are immense in Islam, as they are considered the best and most blessed days of the entire year. Allah swears by these nights in the Quran, and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized that good deeds performed during this time are more beloved to Allah than at any other time.

Why These Days Are Special :

- Multiplied Rewards: Good deeds like prayer, fasting, and charity are elevated in status, even surpassing the reward of Jihad, except for one who loses both their life and wealth for Allah.

Mentioned in the Quran: Allah refers to them as the "appointed days" in Surah Al-Hajj (22:28) and swears by them in Surah Al-Fajr (89:1-2): "By the dawn; And [by] ten nights."

- Combination of Major Worships: This is the only time of the year when the core pillars of Islamic worship come together: prayer, fasting, charity, and the pilgrimage (Hajj).

- The Day of Arafah: The 9th day is the pinnacle of Hajj. Fasting on this day expiates the sins of two years (the preceding year and the coming year) for non-pilgrims.

Highly Recommended Good Deeds:

- Fasting: It is sunnah to fast the first nine days, especially the Day of Arafah.

- Abundant Remembrance (Dhikr): Constantly reciting Tahleel (La ilaha illallah), Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), and Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah).

- Performing Hajj and Umrah: For those who have the physical and financial means.

- Offering the Udhiyah (Qurbani): Sacrificing livestock to follow the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim and feed the needy.

- Charity and Kindness: Giving money to the poor, maintaining family ties, and helping others.

- Repentance and Quran Recitation: Turning back to Allah sincerely and spending time reading the Holy Book.

Reminder: Surah Al Kahf

Prophet Muhammed (SAW) said:

"Whoever reads surah Al Kahf on the day of Jumu'ah, will have a light that will shine on him from one Friday to the next"
